MAGNZ Protest Plate

The registration plate is where motorcycle ownership, vehicle licensing and ACC levies come together. This plate-inspired MAGNZ design is intended as a bold and visible protest against the motorcycle ACC levy system and as a public demonstration of support for MAGNZ’s campaign for fair, lawful and evidence-based levies.

The design is advocacy artwork. It is not a registration plate, does not identify the motorcycle on which the wearer may be travelling, and is not intended to confuse, conceal or imitate the motorcycle’s genuine registration plate.

Because the design uses bold, plate-like lettering, automated number-plate recognition equipment may potentially identify it as an additional plate candidate. Depending on the particular camera, viewing angle, lighting, garment movement and recognition software, it could potentially:

• produce an incorrect reading;

• compete with the genuine plate during automated image processing;

• cause the image to be referred for manual review; or

• contribute to the genuine plate not being automatically associated with the vehicle.

These possible effects are unpredictable and are not the purpose of the garment.
MAGNZ does not represent that the design will interfere with any camera or recognition system, and does not encourage anyone to test, exploit or rely upon such an effect.

The MAGNZ plate garment must not be worn, positioned, altered or used for the purpose of:

• obscuring the motorcycle’s genuine registration plate;

• causing a false or misleading plate reading;

• avoiding identification, tolls, licensing obligations or enforcement;

• interfering with a safety camera or ANPR system; or

• misleading enforcement agencies about the identity of a vehicle.

When worn while riding, the motorcycle’s lawful registration plate must remain completely unobstructed, upright and clearly visible from the rear.

Any deliberate use of the plate design garment to conceal a genuine plate or frustrate lawful identification is contrary to MAGNZ’s instructions and the purpose for which the product is sold.

This is a protest garment - not an evasion device.
